Academy of Dance Arts

Early Childhood Program (Ages 3-6)
Our program teaches the basic elements of movement and dance: space and how we relate to it; the eight basic locomotor movements; musical rhythm, beat, and time; opposites - left, right and directions; decision-making; basic body/health awareness; and elementary positions of ballet. Integrated with these physical and intellectual concepts are other concepts which include creative expression, dramatic interpretation, imagination, teamwork, and self-awareness.

Ballet & Pointe (Age 7 and older)
Our ballet classes are strongly based in traditional, classical technique. Since ballet is the foundation for all forms of dance, we recommend that all dancers study ballet. Emphasis is placed in body alignment and correct body mechanics in order to exemplify classical training and reduce any injuries.

Pointe work is for the serious student who is willing to achieve a higher level of ballet proficiency. Pointe work requires a higher level of time and financial commitment. Students must be at the Level 3 or higher, be at least 10 years old, and take a minimum of two ballet classes and one pointe class a week. Permission from the instructor is required.

Contemporary Dance (Age 7 and up)
Jazz is offered for students who want to learn this fun and exciting dance form. Because the jazz technique requires a sound knowledge of ballet technique, jazz classes should be taken in conjunction with a ballet class.

Hip Hop is a choreography class offering the newest dance moves often seen on TV and in music videos. The music is appropriate and censored for inappropriate language and themes.

Modern dance breaks with the traditional strictures of ballet and uses the body as an instrument to express emotions such as passion, fear, joy, or grief. Emphasis is placed on center core strength. It is an excellent supplement to ballet training.

Musical Theater Program
Classes in Acting and Movement are designed for the student who wants to perform in live theater. Students are encouraged to take Acting and Musical Theater together for our musical productions. Emphasis is placed on performing and audition techniques.

Tap classes are offered in both Broadway and Rhythmic Tap styles for ages 4 and older. Tap is a vibrant dance channeling choreography into intricate rhythmic patterns. It’s a critical form of dance for Musical Theater lovers.

Company Dancers
This division of the Academy is designed for the serious student who wishes to pursue a career in dance. Emphasis is placed on a strong technical base, learning a wide range of styles and techniques, and developing skills, artistry and craft through performance.

Those with a serious degree of commitment to the art of dance and dance performance are welcomed to audition. Auditions are held in September. Students are required to attend a set curriculum outlined by the Director and must be able to perform frequently.

Summer Programs
We offer exciting and creative summer programs for all levels, including weekly classes, 5-day Dance Discovery Camps for students age 3-10, and dance intensives for intermediate and advanced levels. These classes are offered at various times throughout the summer. Please call for schedules and rates.
